What's in the snow? Update February 26, 2024

unusual red discoloration - fresh snow from last weekend...

Pictures and videos - just to look at and think about... The snow comes from a rather remote area - only one car passed by the entire day...

There they are again - our razor blade crystals - here again in combination with hydrogel, as already observed in the last posts. It can no longer be said to be a rare occurrence - they now appear regularly.

Bubbles and responsiveness - unfortunately nothing new either...

However, several of these colored structures appeared in the sample. In general, a discoloration of all gel-like structures is noticeable - with the exception of the so-called crystals.

Or even the same color changes within fibers.

Or enclosed “dots” that appear to contain another substance.

This crystal form actually looked something like an animal shape.

These apparently deformed forms are also becoming more common. They can be seen regularly in recent rehearsals.

Here both structures are next to each other at 400x magnification - you can clearly see the small white dots, which look more like small eggs when viewed more closely. They can also be found regularly, no snow or water sample without them.

This shape here actually looks as if you put your lens on the glass surface and the glass broke. However, I would probably have had to play chicken with my microscope, there are so many of them to see

I would rather say that the crystal forms that appear get more complicated structures.

In the following video you can see a lot of movement around the hydrogel-like structure.

Here too, a beginning of discoloration can be seen. Unfortunately I can't say what kind of substance it is. I don't have the necessary equipment here...

And this cell - which was shown to be highly hemolytic in the blood - is back again...

The new discoloration in the snow indicates a new substance that doesn't necessarily belong there. Maybe someone else has made similar observations in the water or snow over the last week?
